Cruisin', Viewin' and Groovin'

Cruisin', Viewin' and Groovin'
By Kellen Potter

There's no need to get your kicks way out on Route 66!  Coast on down Route 9 straight into Parkville, Missouri on Cruise Night for all the kicks and kick-starts you can shake a stick at, right here in America’s Heartland! Historic Downtown Parkville’s Farmer’s Market welcomes visitors of all ages to partake in the communal joys of big metal toys. This video acquaints audiences with Parkville’s Cruise Night, as it shares stories of enjoyment from some local shift-heads. If you ask the right questions, some folks down here tell you they got stuck here looking for the American Dream, and others say this is exactly where they found it. This slideshow jumpsuits into the wonderful world of wheels via classic car photographs and gospel, until that jail-house-rockin', pompadour-priest steals the show by telling his Rockabilly history of how he became a-hip-shakin’, money-makin’, death-fakin’ heir to the porcelain throne, Mr. Elvis Impressionly. Cruise Night rolls into town again first Saturdays between April and September (except July) from 4-8pm.

About this Project:

These video assignments are for the final project in my Advanced Multimedia Production class with Professor Youngblood at Park University. The assignment concept proved itself an extreme challenge to spin two different story aspects out of one event. This was by far the most difficult project I’ve encountered in either semester of Broadcasting class, but at least it was similar in dynamic to my foiled original plan.
Attending a different classic car show was the original plan, including a variety of amateur and professional models and photographers, but unfortunately it was postponed due to rain.  However, I was fortunate enough to travel to last years event. (See Link to Photo Album of 2016 Hot Rods and Pinups Photoshoot) Ally Brand has hosted this event annually since 2014 at Forest Park in Ottawa, Kansas, and the upcoming 4th Car/Model/Photo event has a new scheduled date of May 21, 2017.
